Requirements vary by university, programme, citizenship and application location. Check the notice for your exact intake before submitting.
What changed
CSCA assesses the academic readiness of international undergraduate applicants. The official system lists specialised Chinese for humanities or science, mathematics, physics and chemistry. Each subject is scored from 0 to 100.
- CSCA lists mathematics and specialised Chinese as compulsory for Chinese Government Scholarship undergraduate applicants. Choose humanities or science Chinese according to the university's requirements.
- For non-CGS undergraduate routes at the universities listed by CSCA, mathematics is compulsory; specialised Chinese is required for Chinese-taught programmes. Physics and chemistry depend on the major. This does not mean every university in China has identical requirements.
- Specialised Chinese: 90 minutes, 80 multiple-choice questions. Mathematics, physics and chemistry: 60 minutes and 48 questions each.
- The score informs a decision; it does not guarantee admission.
How to choose subjects
Choose the programme first and open its official notice. Do not register for subjects based only on a major's name: two universities may set different requirements for similar programmes.
- Put every target university's requirements in one table.
- Choose a subject set that covers all agreed applications.
- Check the test language: maths, physics and chemistry are available in Chinese or English, but a university may specify a preference.
Scores, dates and fees
There is no universal passing score: each university sets its criteria. The published fee is CNY 450 for one subject and CNY 700 for two or more. From November 2026, results for home-based online tests and test-centre computer exams are released within 10 working days after the session ends.

A safe 2027 plan
Build a short programme list before registering. Then verify subjects, language, the latest acceptable session and score delivery. Repeat the check after the 2027 intake notice appears, especially if the major or scholarship route changes.
