Requirements vary by university, programme, citizenship and application location. Check the notice for your exact intake before submitting.
Four main routes
One applicant may be eligible for several competitions, but each has its own operator, portal, deadline and restrictions on overlapping funding. Select the programme first, then match available awards to it.
- Chinese Government Scholarship: via the embassy/nominating authority or university, where the notice permits.
- Provincial and city awards: limited to participating institutions and regions.
- University awards: the institution sets discount level and renewal rules.
- International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship: a separate route for eligible programmes and profiles.
What coverage means
Full coverage may include tuition, a dormitory place or housing subsidy, medical insurance and a monthly stipend. The mix, amount, funded months and summer coverage vary. A partial award may be a fixed discount or a percentage of tuition only.
How applications are assessed
Review may consider academics, language, programme fit, study or research plan, recommendations and current-year competition. CSCA may be part of undergraduate assessment. More selected universities broaden the strategy but do not create an honest universal success percentage.
Check renewal rules
Even a multi-year award may require annual review. Record academic, attendance and conduct conditions, and whether housing and stipends continue during holidays. This changes the four-year budget.
What to do now

Match the award to the exact programme and level.
- 02
List coverage line by line: tuition, housing, insurance and stipend.
- 03
Check the award's separate deadline and portal.
- 04
Keep a reserve for costs before the first stipend.
